LIFE, ELEVATED: HYPOXIA RESEARCH IN THE PERUVIAN ANDES

I accompanied Dr. Tatum Simonson and members of her lab to the Peruvian Andes in March 2019, where they conducted research on the causes, symptoms, and prospective treatments of hypoxia for high-altitude populations. Meanwhile, I interviewed team members and study participants to document the stories behind the individuals who had experienced the short- and long-term effects of hypoxia firsthand.

Our work in Peru supported the Simonson Lab's overarching project, "Seq-ing Discovery: A Genetic Journey from Mount Everest to Machu Picchu," of which I'm a designated project member. The project received the National Geographic Explorer grant in 2018.
